Frequently Asked Questions

Three strap ski binding mounted on a pair of skis placed in snow. Back Country Skis

Q: What back country skis are for?

A: Back country skis can be used on any snow-covered terrain, whether it’s a backyard, forest, or open field. Their wider design compared to regular cross-country skis eliminates the need for groomed tracks. These skis are perfect for anything from a short walk in the park to a full-day adventure.

Q: Do I need ski poles?

A: If this question arises, ski poles would be helpful—especially for beginners or when skiing on hilly or sloped terrain. Ski poles aid in maintaining balance and assist with uphill movement.

Q: Can these skis be used for competition/performance?

A: The skis are designed to be lightweight and durable. However, the recommended bindings may limit ski control during high-speed downhill descents, making them unsuitable for timed racing or complex maneuvers.

Q: Can these skis be compared to snow shoes?

A: Skiing on back country skis is far less tiring. Gliding on skis allows you to cover more distance with less effort, especially on flat or gently rolling terrain. Instead of lifting your feet with each step as you would while snowshoeing or hiking, you can push and glide forward, conserving energy. Also, skiing is much faster and more fun on descents, giving you the ability to ride down slopes with ease.

Q: Are ski boots required?

A: The offered ski bindings are compatible with any winter footwear, so no additional purchases or investments are required. Skiers can use the same winter boots they wear for regular outdoor activities.

Q: What tools are needed to mount bindings on the skis?

A: Phillips-type screwdriver is needed (manual or electric). The skis arrive pre-drilled, no additional drilling required.

Q: What is suggested ski size by weight capacity?
Ski size in cmSki size in inchesSuggested weight of a skier, lb
145 x 1157 x 4.3120 – 165
170 x 1567 x 6165 – 210
175 x 1169 x 4.3165 – 210
175 x 1569 x 6185 – 230

Please note: The overall skiing experience depends on multiple factors—terrain, gear, snow conditions, and personal preferences—which vary greatly from person to person. What feels “comfortable” for one may not be the same for another, making each skiing experience unique. Generally, the more weight, the larger the ski’s footprint required.

Wool boots general viewHand Made Wool Boots

Q: What are hand made wool boots?

A: Felt boots are essentially wool stockings made entirely from sheep’s wool. The wool is hand-rolled and pressed over special molds, resulting in seamless boots. They are breathable and will keep your feet dry and warm for hours. Felt boots are versatile and can be worn both indoors and outdoors with equal comfort.

Q: Are they waterproof?

A: Wool boots are not waterproof, so exposure to water will cause them to become wet and lose their key ability to keep your feet warm. Wool felt boots are ideal for cold weather, especially in temperatures below 25°F (-4°C). In warmer or slushy conditions, use the provided plastic overshoes to protect them. For outdoor wear in temperatures above freezing, always use the overshoes. Indoors, you can wear the wool boots without overshoes for maximum comfort.

Q: How to clean and store wool boots?

A: After coming indoors, gently shake off any water, snow, dirt, or sand. Let them air dry thoroughly. If you used overshoes, dry those separately.

Never dry your wool boots on heaters, stoves, or near open flames, as this can cause them to shrink or harden. Once they’re completely dry, use a stiff brush to remove any remaining dirt.

In the summer, it’s a good idea to let them dry in the sun at least once. When storing them for extended periods, place a moth repellent inside to protect the wool.
